Filipino Olympic medalists Hidilyn Diaz, Carlo Paalam, Nesthy Peticio, and Eumir Marcial have received their cash and fuel incentives from Phoenix Petroleum on Wednesday, August 25, at the Udenna Tower in BGC, Taguig. The incentives were formally given to the four Filipino athletes by Phoenix Petroleum Senior Vice President Raymond Zorrilla who emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting Philippines sports.

“We at Phoenix believe in the power of sports, and its ability to instill important life lessons and values, while bringing honor to a country. That’s why we have always supported Filipino athletes, especially through Siklab Atleta, whose dream to obtain our country’s first-ever Olympic gold medal has finally come true,” Zorrilla said. “By giving these four Filipino athletes their well-deserved incentives, we hope that they continue to represent the Philippines excellently in their respective sports, and inspire more Filipinos to do the same,” he added.

Through separate announcements, Phoenix, previously stated that, through Siklab Atleta, it will give the four Filipino athletes incentives for bringing home a medal from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. For winning the country’s first-ever gold medal, weightlifter Diaz was given a Php 5 million cash incentive, and free Phoenix fuel for life. Carlo Paalam and Nesthy Petecio, meanwhile, were given a Php 3 million cash incentive each. Eumir Marcial, on the other hand, was awarded with a Php 1 million cash incentive.

In recognition of the biggest Olympic medal haul that the four athletes brought to the country, Phoenix has also added free fuel for five years on top of the cash grants given to Paalam, Petecio, and Marcial.

Launched in 2018, Siklab Atleta Pilipinas Sports Foundation is a first-of-its-kind initiative from the private sector, which aims to pool funds to help finance and support the training and international competitions of Filipino athletes who are in the quest to give the country its first Olympic Gold medal.

In the same year, Phoenix launched the ‘Buhayin ang Laban Para sa Ginto’ campaign which enabled the company and its customers to donate to the Olympic gold medal cause of Siklab Atleta.
