Department of Transportation Secretary (DOTr) Art Tugade has ordered the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to extend the deadline for the renewal of licenses to April 2020.
According to the DOTr, this move came after Secretary Tugade’s dialogue with Senate President Tito Sotto, with the current situation of the country and the efforts of the government to contain the spread of the corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante, has now given a directive to its regional offices in Luzon, in the Central and NCR offices, to not collect penalties for late registration of motor vehicles, and for the renewal of driver’s licenses that will expire during the enhanced community quarantine period. Additionally, the validity of all student permits will also be extended.
Aside from extending the deadline for license renewal, the DOTr likewise ordered the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to extend the deadline for the renewal of permits and franchises.
